Delegate Meets with CERD Member

On Day 1 of the CERD review of the U.S. Government and their report, CERD member Mr. Dilip Lahiri addressed the U.S. Government delegation with the following powerful words:

“The United States started off in probably the most difficult among all countries, when it started off in trying to place its laws, regulations and social and economic situation in consonance with the objectives of [I]CERD. Its started off with the history of slavery, maybe 50 years ago segregation was still rampant in the Southern States, the United States army was segregated, earlier, American Indians had been hunted side by side with buffalo and then eventually herded into reservations”
